Tutorial: Photoshop’s Curves Tool (Part 01)

leave a comment »

Again I am sick of fussing over scans and cleaning stuff that won’t get translated or typeset for the next eternity, so I’ll write up a tutorial on the Curves Tool instead. I am spurred on by a conversation in IRC about how I’m the only cleaner Luco has ever heard of using the curves tool on a regular basis. Taking this with a grain of salt I figure it’s an indication that maybe a lot of people don’t know how to use it, or can’t see it’s advantage over levels. This is meant to explain what the tools needed can do and show a basic example. I will write separate tutorials for more difficult page types later. Read the rest of this entry »

Assuming computer literacy, I’ll let you handle opening the program and image.

Step 01

You first need to go to Image>Mode>Grayscale to grayscale the image. Unless it’s a color image for whatever reason you always want to be working in greyscale. Don’t ask me why just do it.

Step 02

After this you need to create some layers. You can do this in a couple of ways Read the rest of this entry »
